Newly-acquired point guard George Hill says it’s a blessing to be a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to Cavs Nation’s Nikki Goel.
As most hoops fans know, Hill was a part of the Cavs’ blockbuster trade deadline deal. In a bit of a surprising move, Cleveland sent out six players. In return, they received four new faces: Hill, Jordan Clarkson, Larry Nance Jr, and Rodney Hood.
“For me, it’s a blessing,” Hill told Cavs Nation after Thursday’s practice session at Cleveland Clinic Courts. “I was in a situation where… I thank Sacramento, but my time there was done. I have an opportunity to play for something special. I pray every morning and night.”
Hill, now 31 years of age, is an excellent on-ball defender with veteran credentials. In his 45 games played this season, the former No. 26 overall pick (2008) has turned in averages of 10.2 points on 46.6 percent shooting from the field (44.9 percent from beyond the arc), 2.8 assists, and 2.7 rebounds.
In his two games played with the Cavs as their starting point guard, Hill has posted averages of 9.5 points, 2.5 assists, and 2.0 rebounds.
Each of the Cavs’ new players have made an impact in their own way, with Hill’s defense being near the forefront of that conversation.
The Cavs have won four straight games. Their first shot at keeping that metaphorical ball rolling comes on Thursday night, as they’re scheduled to host the Washington Wizards inside Quicken Loans Arena. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. EST with TNT and FOX Sports Ohio having live broadcast coverage.
