Donovan Mitchell has helped the Cleveland Cavaliers (47-10) maintain control of first place in the Eastern Conference all season-long, and now he is looking to aid another team in its efforts to climb the hoops hierarchy. The 2023 All-NBA Second-Team selection and six-time All-Star is collaborating with St. Bonaventure, according to former ESPN NBA insider and current Bonnies men’s basketball general manager Adrian Wojnarowski.
“I know y’all came here thinking you were about to watch an NCAA video, but {you’ve} come to find out that y’all are about to wear my gear from head to toe, the D.O.N. gear,” Mitchell said in a promotional video that Wojnarowski posted on X.
“I’m really excited to present this to y’all, y’all work so hard, y’all do a lot,” he continued. “I watch a lot, and obviously y’all got a great GM in Woj right here– him and I go way back. I want to say thank you to him, appreciate y’all, {I’ll} continue to show my love and support. Go rock the gear and get some dubs. Go Bonnies.”
Cavs star Donovan Mitchell and Woj team up
Adrian Wojnarowski is making moves for his Alma mater. Following the announcement that he is auctioning off iPhones he used to break news, better known as Woj Bombs, in order to raise money for St. Bonaventure’s NIL fund, the GM is securing a big arrangement for the basketball program. Mitchell and the team are “aligned on his signature (Adidas) shoe series and gear.”
The Bonnies reside near the middle of the Atlantic 10 standings (19-9, 7-8) and will need to win their conference tournament to book their first trip to the NCAA Tournament since the 2020-21 campaign. If nothing else, though, they can still end the season in style.
Given Wojnarowski’s connections to the NBA, one has to wonder if Donovan Mitchell is the first of multiple stars to collaborate with St. Bonaventure. The 28-year-old guard, who scored 33 points on 11-of-23 shooting in the Cavs’ 129-123 victory versus the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday, is a native of Elmsford, New York. It is unclear why Mitchell chose this school specifically, but he clearly wants to have an active presence in his home state.
The Cavaliers will attempt to win their eight consecutive game when they visit the Orlando Magic (29-30) on Tuesday, while the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team battles St. Joseph’s (17-10, 8-6) on Wednesday.
