The Cleveland Cavaliers are well poised to make the playoffs this 2022-23, but superstar guard Donovan Mitchell doesn’t want his teammates to be complacent and too overconfident with their current standing.
As Mitchell noted, the Cavs have yet to achieve anything and there is still plenty of basketball to be played. While they are currently in fourth place in the East, they should know very well that they could lose that position if they go on a short slump.
“We haven’t done anything. The only thing is we have solidified the fourth spot for like three games. We lose three in a row and we’re not there anymore. We have a long way to go as far as proving ourselves correct. I wouldn’t say proving people wrong. I would say more about proving ourselves correct about who we can be,” Mitchell shared, per Cleveland.com.
The Cavs are 40-26 entering Monday’s contest with the Boston Celtics, one game ahead of the fifth-seeded New York Knicks. While they won their last contest against the Detroit Pistons, though, it should be noted that they are just 6-4 in their last 10 games.
With that said, Donovan Mitchell certainly has every reason to remind his team to keep the pedal to the metal in the final stretch of games this campaign. Considering the short gap in the middle of the East standings, the Cavs need every win they can get in order to cement the fourth seed and secure a homecourt advantage come playoff time.
