According to a report from Brian Mahoney of The Associated Press, Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Derrick Rose will be forced to miss Monday night’s road game against the New York Knicks due to continued discomfort in his left ankle.
This marks the third consecutive game that Rose will miss. Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue gave Iman Shumpert the starting nod in Rose’s absence over that stretch, but he has not announced an official replacement for Monday’s game in the Big Apple. However, Jose Calderon was seen working with Cleveland’s coaching staff in the wee hours of the morning.
Rose, now 29 years of age, was asked about his status after the Cavs’ 111-104 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday night. The former MVP, who has already missed five games in total this season, was noncommittal with regards to whether or not he would be available.
“They haven’t put no timetable on it yet,” Rose told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “Right now I’ve been getting treatment every day, every morning, and night when we land, on the plane. Just trying to get as much treatment as I can or just trying to be smart about it.”
In his seven games played for the Cavs this season, Derrick Rose has turned in averages of 14.3 points on 47 percent shooting from the field, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists. With his status listed as day-to-day going forward, the Cavs will just have to stay true to their “next man up” mentality.
