The Cleveland Cavaliers 108-105 loss in their season opener to the Toronto Raptors was marred by an eye injury that point guard Darius Garland suffered along the way. Garland was clearly shaken up from the injury, and didn’t return to the game after leaving in the second quarter. Unfortunately, it sounds like Garland’s eye injury could end up causing him to miss some time for the Cavs.

Darius Garland injury update

As previously mentioned, Garland suffered the injury to his eye in the second quarter, and heended up not returning to the game after he left. There was hope that Garland would be ready for the Cavs upcoming game against the Chicago Bulls on Saturday, but reports have come out saying that Garland’s eye is swollen shut, which doesn’t exactly paint an encouraging picture for his status for that game.

It’s safe to say this isn’t great news for the Cavs and Garland. The reports coming out after the game didn’t sound very good for Garland, but the hope was that over time, his eye would return to normal, and he would be good to go Saturday against the Bulls. That just doesn’t seem likely to happen now that the swelling has increased to the point where his eye is shut.

Hopefully Garland will be back sooner rather than later, but it looks like Donovan Mitchell and Caris LeVert may have their work cut out for them in Cleveland’s upcoming games. Garland should return stronger than ever, but it looks like he may be out for longer than initially expected.
