The Cleveland Cavaliers are coming into the 2023-24 NBA season looking to build upon last season’s success. Although they fell to the New York Knicks in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, they still had one of their best regular seasons in recent history and the finished with a top four seed in the Eastern Conference and home court advantage in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. A big reason for optimism for the Cavs this season is the continuing development of Evan Mobley. The Cavs made a big decision on Evan Mobley’s contract on Wednesday as per Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com.

The Cavs contract decision on Evan Mobley ensures that their rising big man remains on the Cavs roster at least through the 2024-25 season. While Mobley’s offense is still a work in progress, he has already established himself as one of the best defensive players in the NBA.

Mobley was the No. 3 overall pick by the Cavs in the 2021 NBA Draft. In his two seasons so far, he has proven to be one of the franchise pillars for the organization.

Last season, Mobley played 79 games and averaged 34.4 minutes per game. He averaged 16.2 points per game, 9.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.5 blocked shots with splits of 55.4 percent shooting from the field, 21.6 percent shooting from the three point line and 67.4 percent shooting from the free throw line.

For the Cavs to take that next step and continue their upward trajectory, they’re going to need a big third season from Evan Mobley.
