Cleveland Cavaliers big man Channing Frye suffered a dislocated finger in his right hand during the third quarter of Saturday night’s 116-111 win over the Memphis Grizzlies.
Frye, now 34 years of age, seems to have got his finger caught in the jersey of Grizzlies center Marc Gasol. After a quick sideline evaluation from Cavs team physician Steve Spiro, Frye was led to the locker room for further testing.
Channing Frye was later seen on the bench with his Cavs teammates, but he did not return to the game, though he probably could have. In his 14 minutes of action against the Grizzlies, the former Arizona Wildcats standout turned in six points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field and four rebounds.
Coach Lue said the Cavs will take Sunday off. That means Frye, who has seen his usage rate increase due to Tristan Thompson’s calf injury, will have at least one day to rest his finger.
“I was trying to guard Marc Gasol, and he’s a good player,” Frye said with a smile after Saturday night’s game. “I just kind of jammed (my finger). Give me an Advil or something and I’ll be cool.”
The Cavs, now winners of 11 consecutive games (longest active streak in the NBA), will be back in action on Monday night when they face off against the Chicago Bulls inside the United Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. with Fox Sports Ohio having live broadcast coverage.
