On Monday evening, the Cleveland Cavaliers moved to 12-0 on the young 2024-25 NBA season with a road win over the Chicago Bulls in a game that featured plenty of Donovan Mitchell highlights as well as continued production from unsung heroes like Ty Jerome. The Cavs have come close to seeing their historic stretch come to an end over the last couple games, but clutch play from both Mitchell and Darius Garland has kept the streak alive over the last few contests.
Still, not everyone is so convinced that the Cavs’ hot start is sustainable. One person who recently cast doubt on such a notion was former NBA forward Chandler Parsons, who took to the “Run It Back” show, presented by FanDuel, to relay his concerns.
“As good as (the Cavs) are, as fun as they are to watch, we just haven’t seen them win at an elite level like we’ve seen the Boston Celtics, like we’ve seen the Denver Nuggets,” said Parsons. “When we see these older teams, we have more faith and we have more trust in them. That’s not a knock on these younger teams, we just need to see them do it consistently. We need to see them do it for a full season, and most importantly, we need to see them do it in the playoffs.”
Will the Cavs go 82-0?
Probably not.
But they have gotten off to the best start for an NBA team since the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors rattled off 24 straight victories en route to winning 73 in total during that campaign.
While we knew that Donovan Mitchell was arguably the best shooting guard in the NBA coming into this season, what some fans didn’t expect was the efficient play they’ve seen from point guard Darius Garland, as well as increased offensive aggression and three point shooting from Evan Mobley.
Meanwhile, the Cavs’ bench has also produced at an elite level, with Caris Levert and Ty Jerome both making huge plays in Monday’s come from behind victory vs the Bulls.
Things quite literally could not have gotten off to a better start for newly minted head coach Kenny Atkinson, who has seemingly pushed all of the right buttons so far early in his tenure and has already knocked off some of the NBA’s elite teams so far this year, including going up by 41 points at halftime vs the Golden State Warriors last week.
In any case, the Cavs will look to make it 13-0 when they next hit the floor on Wednesday evening vs the Philadelphia 76ers.
