Cavs big man Andre Drummond will miss his second straight game on Wednesday against the Boston Celtics.
Drummond has a left calf strain:
Drummond has appeared in six games with the Cavs. He’s averaging 15.2 points and 10.8 rebounds in 26.2 minutes per contest. He’s shooting 52.0 percent from the field and 47.4 percent from the free-throw line.
The Cavs are 17-44 on the season. They are in 15th place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Drummond has a player option worth $28.8 million worth next season. He’s expected to pick it up, even if the Cavs trade him this summer. Drummond puts up really good numbers, but anyone who watched him in Detroit knows he just doesn’t impact winning.
Cleveland’s young core is headlined by Collin Sexton, Darius Garland, Kevin Porter Jr., Cedi Osman, Larry Nance Jr. and Dante Exum. The Cavs reportedly believe in new head coach JB Bickerstaff’s ability to develop the young talent on the roster.
The Cavs will use the rest of the regular season to see if Drummond is a good fit with Sexton and Garland. If he’s not, Cleveland will most likely try and trade the All-Star in the offseason.
