As rumors will surround the Cleveland Cavaliers this offseason after a disappointing exit in the NBA Playoffs, though they made it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals, there is one player who could be available who has connections to the team. While the Cavs will be looking to re-sign and acquire other players to bolster the roster, one player that is being linked to the team is Atlanta Hawks forward Jonathan Kuminga.
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, he would write for The Stein Line that Cleveland could be a suitor for Kuminga, especially since head coach Kenny Atkinson used to be with the Golden State Warriors when the young player was there. However, Fischer does warn that the team has “financial limitations this summer.”
“Another team that has always loomed as a potential Kuminga suitor has been Cleveland, thanks to the relationship Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson maintains with Kuminga from their days together in Golden State. The Cavaliers, mind you, face well-chronicled financial limitations this summer,” Fischer wrote.
Kuminga and Atkinson were on the Warriors together from 2021 to 2024, where the Cavs head coach was an assistant under Steve Kerr. Now with Kuminga in Atlanta, this past season saw the 23-year-0ld average 12.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 46.3 percent from the field and 34.6 percent from deep.
Besides Jonathan Kuminga, the Cavs are interested in this reunion
In other news, the one player that has been connected to Cleveland for obvious reasons is LeBron James, as NBA insider Chris Haynes reports that the superstar has told the Los Angeles Lakers that he is playing “elsewhere” next season. In a follow-up, which has been rumored for a long time, the Cavs are interested in a reunion with the 41-year-old.
“Cleveland Cavaliers have interest in a second reunion with LeBron James with the appeal of the franchise’s greatest player finishing his career where it all started, league sources tell me,” Haynes wrote on X.
At any rate, it remains to be seen if Cleveland will pursue Kuminga or James.
