Report: Kings ready to offer package with De’Aaron Fox for Kyrie Irving
The Cleveland Cavaliers are in the midst of an earthquake. The whole offseason has been shaky for the Cavs. They fired general manager David Griffin, and reports are that LeBron James is considering leaving next summer. On top of that, guard Kyrie Irving is reportedly unhappy playing with James, and wants to be traded.
Many teams are, of course, interested in getting Irving. He is only entering his prime, is on a below-market contract and is a four-time All-Star. The teams that Irving reportedly wants to go to are the Knicks, Spurs, Timberwolves and the Heat. However, one team can also prepare a great package for the superstar.
The Sacramento Kings have a plethora of young talent on their roster. In addition to that, they have their own pick for next year’s draft. The Kings, while not on Irving’s wishlist, could make a better package than all those teams he mentioned.
According to Sam Amico from Amico Hoops, the Kings are ready to offer a package including the 5th pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, De’Aaron Fox. Along with Fox, Kings would send draft picks and center Kosta Koufos, plus others if they need to match the salaries.
It is tough to see the Cavs trading away Irving anyway, let alone for a package that does not include more. Fox is a great talent, but the Cavaliers might not want to take a package without Buddy Hield involved. This way, they would get two potential stars, and at least one good pick.
However, at this point, this is still speculation. Irving is still a Cavs player, and unless a very good offer comes, the Cavs should not accept an offer for the sake of letting Irving go.
