Of all teams that were reportedly among Kyrie Irving’s preferred destinations if traded by the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Miami Heat were never considered as a frontrunner. But that could change soon.

According to a report by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the South Beach team is now willing to include Goran Dragic and Justise Winslow as the major pieces in a trade package for Cleveland’s All-Star point guard.

Depending on the other assets that Miami could add, this potential mix seems to have started on a promising note for both teams. The salaries stack up well for both parties, and Dragic could instantly become the Cavs’ lead guard. Meanwhile, and for what it’s worth, Irving would be reunited with former backcourt mate Dion Waiters.

The extra star power will be sorely missed by the defending East champs, but that’s not the only challenge that a potential deal is facing. Heat president Pat Riley is believed to be disinterested in lending a hand to LeBron James’ team after the latter’s unceremonious exit from Miami three years ago.

However, it will be hard to allow a talent like Irving simply pass by without even giving due diligence in attempting to work out a trade.
