According to Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio, after the Cleveland Cavaliers traded for Magic forward Channing Frye, the team contacted the Sacramento Kings and tried to deal Kevin Love and Timofey Mozgov for a package including DeMarcus Cousins. The Kings reportedly denied the trade because they didn’t need a big man with an expiring contract who could leave at the end of the season as an unrestricted free agent.

Instead, the Cavs move into the regular season without the highly-energetic Anderson Varejao and athletic Jared Cunningham, but have gained a deadly stretch four in Channing Frye. It looks like the better move for the Cavs to keep Love, as they keep their excellent inside-outside threats in the frontcourt with Love, LeBron James, Tristan Thompson, Channing Frye, Timofey Mozgov, and Sasha Kaun. It’s hard to argue against getting Cousins, but considering the players the Cavs would have had to give up as well as the attitude and chemistry issues that could have come out, the Cavs will likely be better off without Cousins.
