Cavs’ Donovan Mitchell reveals origin of his ‘LetEmKnow’ social media tradition

Throughout his NBA career, even before he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers before the 2022-23 season, Donovan Mitchell has consistently posted the phrase “LeEmKnow” on his social media handles. It’s become his go-to message over recent years that fans look forward to on game days.

On Monday, the freshly turned 30-year-old guard (September 7 is his birthday) revealed the origin of his infamous phrase. Mitchell claims it’s his way to inform fans that he’s ready for the contest on that given day when he posts the “LetEmKnow” phrase. He says it ensures fans get in the mindset for game time alongside him.

“It’s just my way of letting the fans know, one, that I’m headed to the game. It’s time to lock in, right,” Mitchell said. “But also it’s like just to kind of get the city, get the crowd knowing, like, ‘Alright, it’s that time. We’re approaching that time.’ Typically it’s a 7 o’clock game, so it’s right around four-ish.

“People about to get off work. You get off work, you’re ready,” Mitchell continued. “You’re kind of in like, ‘I gotta get home to catch the Cavs game.’ And let’s people know that you’re headed into work. Time to go out there and do your job. It’s just a way to connect with the crowd, with the city, and something that I’ve done since I was in Utah, and now I’m doing it here.”

Cavs fans can expect to see those social media posts pop up on their timelines relatively soon. Cleveland begins the new 2026-27 season on October 22 with a matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers on the road.

Donovan Mitchell aims to lead his team to bigger and better things next year after the club fell just short of reaching the Finals. The seven-time All-Star ended last season averaging 27.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per contest while shooting 48.3% from the floor and 36.4% from beyond the three-point line in 70 games played.
