The NBA fined Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ty Jerome for comments being critical of the officiating in the team’s 133-129 overtime win over the Portland Trail Blazers.

Jerome had an impressive performance on Sunday. In 36 minutes, he finished with 25 points, six assists, six steals, and five rebounds on 8-of-17 shooting from the field. However, he was critical of how the referees officiated the game, even pointing out one in particular.

“I thought the refs were really bad tonight, especially Natalie [Sago]. She was really bad,” Jerome said.

This prompted the NBA to impose a $25,000 fine to Jerome. They did it because he publicly criticized the referees, continuing a trend of punishment for players who are negative towards the officiating.

The Cleveland Cavaliers may assist Ty Jerome in resolving the fine the NBA gave him, especially as they continue building their case as championship contenders.

Jerome has also played a key role in their success. This season, he is averaging 12 points, 3.4 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game after 56 appearances. He is shooting 51.6% from the field, including 44.9% from beyond the arc, as he makes his argument for the NBA’s 6th Man of the Year Award.

Cleveland boasts a 50-10 record on the season, maintaining their grasp over the top spot of the Eastern Conference standings. They continue to have the best record in the league, being a game better than the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Following Sunday’s overtime win over the Blazers, the Cavaliers prepare for their next matchup, being on the road. They face the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.
