As the NBA’s defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers finalize their deal with the Atlanta Hawks to bring veteran sharpshooter Kyle Korver to the shores of Lake Erie, many fans of the organization are asking themselves a reasonable question:
“When will we see Korver wearing Wine and Gold?”
According to ESPN and Jason Lloyd of The Akron Beacon Journal, Korver could be available as early as tonight.
Cavs Head Coach Tyronn Lue told reporters on Friday that once the trade is finalized, Korver will come off the bench (initially) and DeAndre Liggins will remain a starter. Korver, 35, should see plenty of playing time while J.R. Smth (thumb fracture) recovers from his injury.
Korver has made a league-leading 1,952 three-pointers since entering the NBA. So far this season, Korver is averaging 9.5 points (44.1% FG, 40.9% 3PFG), 2.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 27.9 minutes per game. Playing with LeBron James will give the smooth-shooting swingman an opportunity to launch plenty of open three-pointers.
Lloyd recants Lue’s praise of Korver’s three-point shooting in his recent article with www.ohio.com.
Especially a guy who can move without the ball the way he moves coming off screens and things like that, there’s no better guy,” Lue said. “You put him on the floor with Channing, RJ, LeBron and the floor will open (up) wide, so now you got to pick your poison when you try to help off Kyrie and LeBron.”
If Korver doesn’t play tonight, Cavs fans should expect to see him dress for Sunday’s road game against the Phoenix Suns or Tuesday’s match-up against the Utah Jazz.
