The Cleveland Cavaliers got their butts kicked last night against the Golden State Warriors. Cleveland walked into Oracle Arena with a four game winning-streak against the Warriors, but left with a 126-91 loss on their 29-11 record. They shot just 35.2% from the field, turned the ball over 15 times (12 combined from Kyrie Irving and LeBron James), and allowed the Warriors to shoot 50.5% on 37 assists.
After the game, head coach Tyronn Lue spoke about his team’s performance.
“What do you want us to do?” responded Lue when asked about how the Cavs move on from the loss. “They beat us, they won one game. We gotta shake it off, we have 40 more games left.”
This loss is easily the worst loss of the season for the Cavs, but coach Lue is brushing it aside like any other game the Cavs have lost this season.
“So what?” said Lue when told he lost by 35 points. “So what, we lost. We lost one game, they beat us. Right now we gotta go home and regroup.”
For the Cavs, nothing would be better than going home. The Cavs have been on the road for the past 10 days with stops in Brooklyn, Phoenix, Utah, Portland, Sacramento, and Oakland. Their six-game road trip ended in Oakland, and the Cavs now have two days off before hosting the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night.
Did Lue expect a bad night from the Cavs eventually? Sure, but not a loss of this magnitude..
“I didn’t think it was coming like this, but they played well. Give them credit. That’s what champions do. They lost four in a row, five out of six [to the Cavs]. They played like a team with their backs against the walls. They punished us… They kicked our ass.”
