Cleveland Cavaliers forward Tristan Thompson suffered a thumb injury during the third quarter of last night’s 122-102 victory over the Orlando Magic. Initial x-rays came back negative. However, shortly after noon today, multiple sources reported that the injury is a sprained right thumb.
As Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio and AmicoHoops.net reports, Thompson, who did not travel with the team, will miss tonight’s nationally-televised game against the Boston Celtics and Friday’s bout with the Atlanta Hawks. Sadly, this means that his streak of 447 consecutive games played record will go by the wayside. While there is no structural damage to his thumb, Thompson will be re-evaluated before Friday’s game for precautionary measures.
So far this season, “Double T,” as Thompson is affectionately known, is averaging 8.1 points and 9.2 rebounds per game for the Cavaliers. According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the Cavs have recalled center Larry Sanders from their D-League affiliate team, the Canton Charge, to bolster their front-court.
