The NBA’s defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers are on to the Eastern Conference Semifinals by way of a 4-0 sweep against the Indiana Pacers in their first-round matchup.
The Cavs, led by LeBron James‘ 33 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, four steals, and two blocks, put the final nail in the Pacers’ playoff coffin on Sunday with a 106-102 victory inside a desperate Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
During his post-game media availabilty, Cavaliers forward Tristan Thompson made the case that James, who nearly averaged a triple-double in the series against the Pacers (32.8 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 9.0 assists), should be seriously considered for this year’s NBA MVP award.
According to Jason Lloyd of The Athletic, Thompson interrupted his own post-game interview when he saw James walking down the hall and towards the podium after Sunday’s win.
“Long live the king, Thompson proclaimed. “He’s the best player in our league. He’s my MVP. He should be the MVP, but I heard your guys’ votes are in already. So damn. That sucks. He’s the MVP. Best player. That’s all I’ve got to say.”
