Last night, the NBA’s defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers wrapped up their three-game home stand with a matchup against the Orlando Magic inside Quicken Loans Arena, resulting in a 122-102 runaway victory for the home team.
During the second half of last night’s game, Tristan Thompson suffered an unfortunate thumb injury. However, initial x-ray scans showed no signs of serious complications. Today, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reports that “Double T,” as Thompson is affectionately known, did not travel with the Cavaliers to Boston for their nationally-televised game tonight against the Celtics, which means his streak of games played (447) will indeed be in jeopardy. The 6’10” center will undergo an MRI for precautionary measures later today.

On the season, Thompson is averaging 8.1 points and 9.2 rebounds per game for the Cavaliers. According to Windhorst, the Cavs have recalled center Larry Sanders from their D-League affiliate team, the Canton Charge.
If Thompson eventually sits this one out, a match against the tough-as-nail Celtics could be an excellent opportunity for coach Tyronn Lue to throw Sanders out in the fire.
