Seven-time NBA champion Robert Horry joined Cleveland Cavaliers forward Richard Jefferson for a guest appearance on the latest episode of the hit podcast, “Road Trippin’ with R.J. and Channing.”
During his wide-ranging interview, “Big shot Bob,” as Horry is known, decided to share his opinion on where LeBron James will rank among the best players in NBA history. After praising his 2016-17 season, Horry began to speak in terms of legacy — more specifically, whether or not the King will be able to surpass Michael Jordan.
“This year, I think there should have been two MVP’s of the league, or maybe three. I think it’s Jordan, then it’s Dream (Hakeem Olajuwon) and Kobe (Bryant) right here,” Horry said with a hand gesture. “And then you’ve got LeBron coming up little by little to catch them.
“Now, I love LeBron, and I think LeBron, by the end of his career, is going to probably be, you know, with Jordan — one and two,” Horry continued. “But right now, I always look at what LeBron does on the court — it’s incredible. I see what Kobe did, and I played against LeBron, never had the pleasure of playing with him. I would loved to have played with him. But I just know that from playing against Kobe, playing with Kobe, and playing against LeBron, I would have to put Kobe a slight (bit) ahead of LeBron.”
The King certainly isn’t showing signs of slowing down. In fact, last season — his 14th, James racked up career-high averages in dunks, assists (8.7), and rebounds (8.6), en route to 27.1 points per game on 55 percent shooting from the field.
Like most players, James, a known basketball history buff and stat guy, cares about his legacy and where he will rank among the all-time greats. For now, though, fans will just have to enjoy the ride.
