Who doesn’t love a hustler? Every team has them and pays them despite disparities in skill. The best part about professional go-getters is that they come in all shapes and sizes. Cleveland has invested in all brands of hustle.
Like everything else for the Cavs, it starts with LeBron James. Our unanimous, Finals MVP led his Cavaliers out of a 3-1 deficit by not only scoring, passing and rebounding the most, but also leading in blocks and steals.Look at the most expensive, least appreciated offensive rebounder, Tristan Thompson. But there’s a Cavalier, one who may not sport the same suits of power and athleticism, that plays with the same lack of relent.
Matthew Dellavedova has been everything for the Cavs. He went from incapable glimpses last year to earning the highest assist-turnover ratio these playoffs. His commitment to the game dignifies his value way beyond a 6’4″ guard who can drop the occasional Delly Trey.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, two teams are interested in this value, so much so that they’ve put a number on it.
“Both the Bucks and the Pistons could use a reliable backup point guard, and Windhorst is reporting that they are prepared to offer Dellavedova something in the $10 million range as an unrestricted free agent.” – via RotoWorld
Windhorst said that both the Pistons and Bucks sent scouts to Cleveland’s playoff games, and he believes that they were looking at Dellavedova, who averaged 3.9 points and 2.7 assists in about 14 minutes a game, half the time and scoring of his heroic 2015 run.
But as mentioned before, for an athlete who makes millions off of hustle and committing less than one turnover a game doesn’t care about numbers. Needless to say, Bucks and Pistons would instantly benefit from the work ethic.
