The trilogy is in full effect, basketball fans. The defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors are set to meet in the NBA Finals for an unprecedented third consecutive season.
As most hoops fans know, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has been dealing with complications from a prior back surgery — an ailment that could cause him to miss the Finals entirely. As a result, former Cavaliers head coach Mike Brown has been running the show for Golden State in Kerr’s stead. As you might imagine, coach Brown, who served two stints in Cleveland, knows several Cavaliers players quite well. After all, this is the same man who watched Kyrie Irving blossom into Uncle Drew.
After today’s shootaround at Cleveland Clinic Courts, LeBron James spoke to members of the media with regards to the upcoming showdown with Golden State. Despite his absence, James says coach Kerr’s presence will still be felt throughout the series — even if he isn’t on the sidelines. The King also wanted to remind everyone not to sleep on coach Brown.
“Nah, Steve’s there,” James said with a knowing glance. “He’s there. And Mike Brown has enough talent and enough experience to keep it going. So, when you have a system in place, when you have that caliber of talent, things are still gonna go right.”
It’s the “three-match” that everyone wanted, and it kicks off on Thursday, June 1st, at 9:00 p.m. on TNT. Stay sharp, Cavs fans.
