Often times, when we discuss basketball players and the NBA, we forget that they’re regular people as well when it comes to emotions and thoughts. The best example of that is when reporters ask players silly questions.

The most recent example was just over a month ago when the L.A. Clippers fell to the Utah Jazz at home in Game 5, had to go on the road to win Game 6, and try to force a Game 7. After the Game 5 loss, Clippers’ guard Chris Paul was asked if he thought his team would be back at Staples Center for a do-or-die Game 7. As a member of the team, did the reporter expect Paul to say anything other than ‘yes?’ So Paul sniped at him for asking the dumb question.

Following the Cleveland Cavaliers‘ Game 2 loss at the Golden State Warriors on Sunday night, Cavs’ forward LeBron James was asked a similarly dumb question by a reporter immediately after the loss.

Q: “LeBron, do you just feel like this is a case where you have to defend home court at this point?”

James: “Well, are you a smart guy?”

Q: “I think so.”

James: “Well, if you don’t defend home court, then what happens? I’m asking you.”

Q: “Then you guys are looking at getting swept.”

James: “Alright, so that answers your question.”

Especially after a loss, players might be a little more on edge as they deal with the emotions of what just happened and what’s to come, so it’s best not to ask any silly questions like these.
