While much is made of LeBron James’ potential destinations, another option is a re-hashed version of this Cleveland Cavaliers roster with other players joining him.
While this is perhaps a tougher route to pull off, James is reportedly still looking to lure talent to play alongside him in Cleveland, gauging whether they’d rather join him there, or if he’ll have to pull this off elsewhere, according to ESPN’s Ryen Russillo.
“Reports of the Cavs looking for players to come to Cleveland are not just about trying to help LeBron. James is scanning the market and seeing if players want to join him in CLE. If no one wants to come to CLE, he’s probably gone. But this is why I’ve said there’s still a chance.”
The Cavs reportedly still have the likes of Kemba Walker and C.J. McCollum in their sights, but any trade for those two would have to involve Kevin Love, as Cleveland has nearly no attractive contracts — putting an end to any hopes for a Big Three scenario.
It’s no surprise that players would rather join him in a big market and with a different supporting cast, given how the Cavaliers have fared against the Golden State Warriors in the last two NBA Finals, but there’s still room for doubt, as James could shock the world once again and decide to stay if everything else proves too much of a risk.
