The never ending debate on who is the greatest player of all-time between Cavaliers superstar LeBron James and NBA legend Michael Jordan will likely never end, and the conversation has gained serious momentum again this postseason as James is putting together one of the truly incredible individual playoff runs we’ve witnessed in recent memory.
After engineering the biggest NBA playoff comeback of all-time during the Cavs’ sweep of the Indiana Pacers, James took it to another level in the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Toronto Raptors as the Cavs bounced their familiar foes in four straight games.
It has been a special playoff campaign so far for the King, and as the records continue to fall and he continues to dominate the Eastern Conference, the reigning Finals MVP continues to heat up the conversation about solely taking the mantle of the greatest player that has ever lived.
As the Cavs convincingly swept the Raptors, it was the 31st playoff series James has won, eclipsing “His Airness” who had a total of 30 during his storied career.

James has overtaken Jordan in this monumental statistic, and it is perhaps even more impressive when you consider some of Jordan’s 30 playoff series victories were in the best-of-five format unlike the entirely best-of-seven James has had to achieve during his postseason career. If that wasn’t enough, the kid from Akron is also likely to pass him as the greatest playoff scorer of all-time during this postseason provided he keeps up his current scoring pace.
James is currently averaging 34.4 points, nine rebounds, 7.1 assists, 2.1 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game during this postseason, and has earned a week’s rest before he battles it out with either the Washington Wizards or Boston Celtics who remain as the only obstacle in his path to his seventh straight NBA Finals and eighth overall.
As the records continue to fall and James continues to remain head and shoulders above his peers, the debate continues to gain momentum.
We may in fact be witnessing the “GOAT” right before our very eyes.
