After dispatching the Toronto Raptors in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, 115-94, Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James made his way to the media table wearing a camouflage button-up and a tan fedora to discuss a variety of topics, including his legacy in the NBA.
James, a three-time champion, four-time league MVP, and hometown hero, has certainly lived up to the name “The Chosen One.” Last night, The King turned in 35 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and one steal in 41 minutes of playing time. Through Cleveland’s first seven games of the 2016-17 playoffs, he is carrying averages of 34.3 points (57% from the field), 9.0 rebounds, and 7.3 assists. In the series against the Raptors, James is averaging 36.3 points on 60 percent shooting from the field.
During his post-game media availability, James had one simple question for the reporters who were gathered to hear him speak.
Via Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com:
“What else do I have to prove?” James said after last night’s win. “Seriously, what else would I have (to do)? I’ve won championships, I won my first one and I’ve won for my teammates, I came home and won. There isn’t anything I have left to prove.”
When you think about it, James is right. There isn’t much left for him to prove. However, that doesn’t mean he’s ready to slow down. In fact, it seems to be just the opposite. James says his passion and desire to be great is stronger than ever.
“I know what you’re saying, but I’m not free, because my passion for this game is so huge, it’s enormous, and my desire to be great is ridiculous,” James said. “My desire to be great, to be great at this game I love so much, that trumps everything else.”
