The Cleveland Cavaliers outlasted the Golden State Warriors in Game 4 of the NBA Finals to secure their first win of the championship series. They scored a total of 137 points on the night, which is tied for third highest point total in NBA Finals history.

Their night got off to a scorching start when they scored an NBA Finals record 49 points in the opening period. Kevin Love scored 14 points on 4-6 shooting, Kyrie Irving added 11 points on 4-5 shooting, LeBron James added eight points, four rebounds, and six assists, and Richard Jefferson as well as J.R. Smith scored six points apiece.

The Cavaliers easily could’ve scored 50 in the first quarter, but they missed eight free throws of 22 attempts. One of those came with just under three seconds left and James at the line for two. James split the freebies and his team finished with 49 points and lead by 16.

To close out his postgame interview, James said he didn’t have time to notice how many points the Cavs put up in a single quarter. He also joked/added that his Cavs would’ve had 50 points in the quarter, but that he couldn’t make a free throw.
