A week can be a long time in basketball. Just last week, it looked as though the Cavaliers had found their perfect big man in Andrew Bogut, before the Australian went down with a broken tibia just 58 seconds into his debut. It looked for all odds that the scenario to bring former lottery pick Larry Sanders to Northeast Ohio had vanished, but never say never in the NBA as Sanders now looks destined for Cleveland.
Sanders was in the process of finding a new NBA home after his dream to play for the world champions had seemingly fallen through, but now the former Milwaukee Bucks big man is in negotiations with the Wine and Gold.
The Cavs aren’t just looking for a legitimate big man to join the ride for this upcoming championship run come June, but reports have surfaced the Cavs are looking at a possible second, non-guaranteed year in his contract, per ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.
It looks as though the Cavs are banking on the upside of Sanders, who showed immense promise in his brief time within the NBA.
The Cavs were comprehensively out-rebounded by the Rockets last night in their defeat, and Sanders could go some way to fixing the Cavs rebounding issues especially with glass general Kevin Love still out with injury.
A deal for Sanders could be done as soon as Monday, and the Cavs could have their man to fill the void Bogut left with his unfortunate injury.
Sanders averaged 6.5 points, 6.1 rebounds on 50% shooting in 233 appearances for the Bucks. He last took to the floor on December 23, 2014.
