Internationally renowned football star Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior recently made the decision to part ways with FC Barcelona for a new role with Paris Saint-Germain. Neymar, as he’s more commonly known, sent out a farewell message to his fans and followers on Instagram.
In his heartfelt dedication, the Brazilian native explained what a dream it was playing for Barcelona—and why he ultimately decided to leave, despite the wishes of his father.
“Barcelona and Catalonia will always be in my heart,” Neymar says in his video. “But I need new challenges.”

Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving is faced with a situation that is somewhat similar to Neymar’s. Both play(ed) behind legends. In Irving’s case, it’s LeBron James, the greatest basketball player of this generation (some would argue further).
As for Neymar, he was playing behind Lionel Messi, one of the greatest football players of all-time. So, as you can see, it seems Irving, who recently requested a trade from the Cavaliers, and Neymar, who has already been granted a release from Barcelona, want the chance to prove they can be successful on their own, running their own show.
In a bit of a strange twist, Kyrie Irving took note of Neymar’s farewell post and decided to hit the like button. Maybe it’s a hint, or maybe he was just supporting his friend. We’ll leave you to be the judge.
