Last night, a shorthanded Cleveland Cavaliers team made their way to South Beach for a matchup against the Miami Heat inside American Airlines Arena. After leading for the majority of the game, the Cavs were outscored by 11 points in the fourth quarter and were defeated in overtime, 124-121.

Prior to last night’s game, Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue announced that LeBron James and Kyrie Irving would be held out for rest. With Irving out, coach Lue needed some extra depth at the point guard position. Subsequently, the Cavs made the decision to call up rookie Kay Felder from the Canton Charge, Cleveland’s D-League affiliate team.

During the third quarter of last night’s game, Felder made a driving attempt at the basket and landed awkwardly on his descent. The 5’9″ ball-handler limped to the bench and was later taken to the locker room for further evaluation. It was a lower left leg injury, and Felder, who recorded four points, four assists, one rebound, and one steal in just seven minutes of playing time, did not return to play.

There is good news to report with regards to Felder’s injury, however. According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, his x-ray scans came back negative and team doctors are expecting him to be fine.
