Wanting to add some more veteran experience at the end of their bench, the Cleveland Cavaliers signed Dahntay Jones for the postseason right before the end of the regular season. The Cavs did the same thing last season and since Jones proved to be an excellent teammate then, Cleveland brought him back this year.
Jones isn’t expected to play a large role on the Cavs as he will likely only play in blowouts, which was the case in Cleveland’s Game 1 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Monday. But even though Jones only entered the game in the closing minutes, he made his presence known. For all the wrong reasons that is.
After throwing down a dunk, Jones taunted Raptors rookie Jakob Poeltl with a stare down. He was given a technical for this and in the aftermath received another one for jawing with Norman Powell.
Jones’ final stat line ended up being quite hilarious.
From USA Today’s Jeff Zillgitt:
Unfortunately for Jones though, his ejection will cost him a sizable portion of his salary with the Cavs.
From ESPN’s Brian Windhorst:
Dahntay Jones made $9,000 from Cavs this season. He just got fined $6,000 for 2 techs and an ejection.

Maybe Jones’ teammates will chip in and pay for his technicals. Or maybe they will let him pay for them since after all, it was his fault.
Either way though, Jones has hilariously already made his imprint on the playoffs for the Cavs.
