LeBron James puts in another all-time great Finals performance as he and the Cleveland Cavaliers even the series and force a decisive Game 7.
LeBron James would not let the Cavs go down tonight as he and the Cavaliers started the onslaught early. The Cavs burst the game wide open early, as they forced the Warriors to just 11 points, their fewest total points after the first period all season, and the lowest by an NBA Finals team since the shot-clock era began in 1955. The Cavaliers fed off the crowd’s energy, and their swarming defense and irresistible flowing offense was too much for the Warriors to handle early on. Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson also started brilliantly, with their aggression forcing multiple Warrior players to pick up early fouls that would affect the game significantly later on. Cavs lead 31-11 after one.
The second period saw the Warriors show fight, but the Cavs continued to roll. The defense was suffocating, and the Cavs continued to maintain their advantage throughout the period. They pushed the envelope, forcing the Warriors to expend massive amounts of energy to score the ball. A mind blowing first half ended with the Cavaliers holding a 59-43 advantage at the break.
The Cavaliers were desperate for much of the same in the second half, and LeBron James displayed why he is still undoubtedly the best player on the planet. The second half was owned by number 23, and he imposed his will on the contest. The Warriors showed a lot of fight, and a 9-0 run in the middle of third quarter saw a once 21 point lead cut to just 7. The Cavs offense became stagnant, and they failed to end the third period on a high note, leaving the door open for the Warriors. As the fans inside the Q started to sweat, LeBron James went on to stead the tide, and stopped the bleeding to end the third period with the Cavs up 80-71 after three.
After finishing the third quarter on a personal eight point run, LeBron started the fourth scoring the Cavs first 10 straight points. His individual 18 point push had the crowd rocking again, and the momentum was right back with the home team. The Warriors simply could not stop LeBron. Whatever they did, whoever they sent at him, he was making plays for himself while setting up his teammates. A series of bail-out tough jumpers at the end of hte shot clock while repeatedly finding Tristan Thompson rolling to the rim for thunderous dunks, the King and the Cavs emphatically finished the contest. Throw in a massive block from LeBron on Steph Curry, as well as the MVP’s ejection moments later for a tantrum, and the Cleveland crowd knew they had a seventh game to look forward to. LeBron finished with 41 points, 11 assists, 8 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 blocks. The starters were then taken out, the clock ran down, and the Cavs stormed away 115-101 winners.
The Cavaliers created modern day NBA history by winning Game six and forcing a game seven. They have now evened the series, and will head to Oakland for one game to win it all. LeBron and the Cavs are playing at an extraordinary level, and they have the all the momentum in the world heading into the most important game in franchise history.
