When you come at the King, you best not miss. Atlanta Hawks forward Taurean Prince had every intention to personify those wise words from Omar when he drove to the basket during Thursday’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Unfortunately for Prince, he didn’t just miss – he failed spectacularly, as LeBron James erased his shot in emphatic fashion.
Prince didn’t stand a chance against James. If anything, it’s a surprise that Prince was able to hold back his tears after James sent his shot to the ground as though he was making a hard volleyball spike. (Maybe James was only trying to avenge himself of a block he received a couple of years back from another “Prince”.)
It’s the kind of block that could have sent lesser men bawling in a corner, so let’s credit Prince for keeping it together.
That block aside, it was a great night for James, who earlier passed Alex English for 10th all-time in career field goals made in the NBA.
James also made sure Prince wouldn’t get any of that consolatory last laugh, as he scored 24 points to go with 12 assists, six rebounds, and two blocks to lead Cleveland to a 121-114 win and extend the team’s unbeaten streak to 10 games.
