Over the course of his illustrious 15-year career in the NBA, Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James has established himself as one of the greatest athletes to ever step foot on a basketball court. His accolades, which include three NBA championship rings, four MVP awards, 13 All-Star nods, and 11 First Team selections, are longer than a country mile. Being dubbed as “The Chosen One” at such a young age might have been a tall order for some, but James has certainly lived up to the hype.
As most hoops fans know, James, now 32 years of age, is also a connoisseur of all things music (rap and hip-hop, most notably). And in fact, his on-court greatness has garnered mentions from several talented artists over the years, including his long-time friend in Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Yo Gotti, Daddy Yankee, Gorilla Zoe, and The Game.
Prior to the start of the 2017-18 NBA season, the Cavs superstar joined James Corden of The Late Late Show for a ride-along filming session of his popular segment, ‘Carpool Karaoke.’ In the episode, LeBron James explains how it feels to have his name mentioned by so many artists.
“Anytime Jay (Jay-Z) says my name, it’s very humbling. He’s like my big brother. He takes care of me,” James said of his friend.
After a quick text message to Jay-Z, James and Corden decided to turn on some music for their ride. What song was it, you ask? Ice Cube’s smash hit from 1992, ‘It Was a Good Day.’
Intro plays… LeBron knows every word… Incoming plot twist…
To LeBron James’ delight, Cube himself, rocking an L.A. Dodgers cap, popped up in the back seat of the car to recite the lyrics, and it became quite a ride for everyone inside the vehicle.
