In a career filled with amazing and unbelievable plays, LeBron James added to his already impressive résumé Thursday night. In the game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Philadelphia 76ers, James showed why he is one of the NBA’s most captivating players.
During a first quarter play, James was driving to his left when he was caught between the Sixers’ Joel Embiid and Cavs teammate Tristan Thompson.
No problem.
The Cavaliers forward executed a behind-the-back dribble to escape Embiid as he drove down the lane. He was met by Ben Simmons and then Dario Saric who fouled James on his way up. He made the layup with his left hand on his way down.
Watching the replay, however, it shows that James’ behind-the-back dribble had an extra degree of difficulty to it. As he flipped it behind him, the ball actually went between Thompson’s legs leading to the three-point play opportunity.
It’s a play that you will definitely watch over and over again just by how impossible it seemed but one that James executed to perfection.
The All-Star forward was recently named the Eastern Conference Player of the Month for February, the 37th such award that he has earned throughout his career. That accounts for 43% percent of the East’s Player of the Month honors handed out by the league since James entered the NBA straight from high school.
James is off to a fast start in the Philadelphia-Cleveland game. Thus far in the first half, he already has 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.
