As crazy as it sounds, Kane Fitzgerald made history on Tuesday night for being the first NBA referee to ever eject Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James from a game. Coincidentally, it also happened against his former team in the Miami Heat with just under two minutes left in the third quarter.
“The King’s” ejection from his own court sent shockwaves across the NBA world. However, Boston Celtics superstar and James’ former teammate Kyrie Irving was seemingly unfazed by the whole fiasco, according to Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe:
Although Irving’s comments may have indicated that he, like everyone else, thought James’ ejection was questionable, it does not seem as if he wanted to stir the pot more than it already has been. However, it is more likely that Irving just has more pressing matters to deal with than a former teammate’s first career ejection.
Boston just dropped the first of a four-game homestand and have a tough matchup in an upstart Philadelphia 76ers team on Thursday night. Meanwhile, the Cavs are starting to get within striking distance of the NBA-leading Celtics after a slow start to the 2017-18 NBA season. That said, it could only be a matter of time before both teams are neck and neck thanks to Cleveland’s current nine-game winning streak.
