Former Cleveland Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert is still on the free agent market, waiting to see if any NBA squad will pick him up for this upcoming season.
In the meantime, Shumpert is keeping himself busy by doing some DJ-ing for his wife Teyana Taylor.
R&B and hip-hop singer performed at the halftime show of Saturday night’s WNBA All-Star game, with Shumpert serving as her DJ and hype man for the stage.
Shumpert made sure to add “being a DJ” to his resume.
No teams thus far have expressed interest in bringing in Shumpert. Perhaps DJ-ing might be in the works for a career shift for the 29-year old shooting guard.
Shumpert is very much into music anyway. In fact, he has an EP entitled Substance Abuse, which he released in April 2018. The mixtape has six tracks, and Shumpert goes by the alias “Iman.”
Nevertheless, Shumpert hasn’t officially retired from basketball. He is just 29 years old anyway, and could still be a valuable veteran for any team.
The Sacramento Kings signed Shumpert last season to help mentor their young core. Guys such as De’Aaron Fox were vocal about how great of a locker room presence he was in his time in Sacramento. Fox and their other young guys were bummed when the Kings traded the nine-year veteran to the Houston Rockets last February.
Of course, Shumpert will always hold a place in the hearts of Cavaliers fans. The 6-foot-5 guard played three and a half seasons in Cleveland, where he averaged 6.7 points and 3.3 rebounds in 182 games.
Though his numbers don’t jump out the page, Shumpert was still a vital rotation piece in Cleveland’s magical championship run in the 2016 NBA Finals.
