Alec Burks said he was happy the Utah Jazz were trading him to the Cleveland Cavaliers because he was going to get more playing time with the Cavs.
On Monday night against the Brooklyn Nets, Alec Burks showed exactly what he’s going to do with that extended playing time, hitting the game-winning dunk for the Cavs versus the Nets on the road.
The Cavs got their fifth win of the season thanks to Alec Burks’ heroics. The athletic swingman finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, and one assist in 29 minutes of action.
Cavs reserve shooting guard Jordan Clarkson led the way for Cleveland with 20 points, big man Tristan Thompson recorded a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds, and rookie point guard Collin Sexton notched 15 points.
Alec Burks, making $11.29 million this year, will become an unrestricted free agent after this season ends. He has a great opportunity to show the Cavs and the rest of the NBA what he can do with more playing time.
If things go well, Burks should be able to get a nice contract in the offseason. Health, of course, has always been the biggest issue with him. Burks has never played more than 78 games in an NBA season. Let’s see if he can stay healthy with the Cavs and produce well.
