The Cleveland Cavaliers are in need of changes. However, any potential reform will not have anything to with Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue.
In Adrian Wojnarowski’s article for ESPN, one team official from the defending Eastern Conference champions emphasized that, despite many fans calling for it, Lue’s job as head coach of the team is secured.
“We are not firing our head coach,” one Cavaliers official told ESPN late Saturday night.
Cleveland is coming off a horrible month of January, and despite having a short run since shifting Jae Crowder to the bench, the team’s woes are back, especially on the defensive end. The Cavs are coming off an embarrassing 120-88 loss to Western Conference powerhouse Houston Rockets that saw LeBron James shoot 30 percent on the floor en route to a measly 11 points.
In fact, after the game, James was visibly disturbed by their performance that he says the Cavs do not deserve to be on national TV where they have gone an abysmal 0-8 so far.
Throughout the season, two issues have consistently hounded the Cavs — defense and chemistry — and at this point, there are no positive strides being seen from the team on either.
To make matters worse, All-Star power forward Kevin Love is sidelined for two months after fracturing his hand against the Detroit Pistons. With this, the coaching staff and front office will have to be very creative as the trade deadline approaches.
In the middle of the chaos within the Cavs, the front office has decided to establish a sense of assurance, no matter how small it is, in hopes that something good could emanate from it. Not even James, whose impending free agency poses questions on the team’s stability in the near future, can offer that right now.
At this point, there are more whines than gold in The Land.
