With training camp set to begin in a few weeks, wing depth remains a pressing issue for the Cleveland Cavaliers. That said, the Cavs may find a solution with some help from the Memphis Grizzlies.
In his article for Right Down Euclid, Cavs insider Evan Dammarell mentioned a path towards either Dillon Brooks or Kyle Anderson.
According to sources, the Cavaliers are already interested in trying to acquire either Dillon Brooks or Kyle Anderson from Memphis to address their issues on the perimeter. Would a trade involving Nance be enough to entice the Grizzlies? Per sources, if Cleveland were to include next year’s first with light protections as well it just might be.
Brooks is coming off the best season of his career in 2020-21, tallying 17.2 points per game on 34% shooting from long distance. He raised his stock dramatically in his first playoff series. In five games against the top-seeded Utah Jazz, Brooks averaged 25.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists on a 51-40-80 shooting split.
Unlike Brooks, who’s a score-first type of player, Anderson contributes in multiple areas. He’s a savvy forward who also enjoyed a banner campaign last season with averages of 12.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game on a 36% 3-point clip.
Parting ways with Nance Jr. would be a tough pill to swallow for the Cavs, though. He’s established himself as a fan favorite and a respected locker room voice in a young team. He also possesses a valuable skillset on both ends of the floor. To recall, there was a point last season when Nance led the league in deflections.
The Cavs need this deal more than the Grizzlies. However, they shouldn’t resort to desperate measures just yet.
