On Tuesday night, the Cleveland Cavaliers saw their 2024-25 season come to an end with a crushing Game 5 loss at home vs the Indiana Pacers. Donovan Mitchell filled the stat sheet but struggled with his efficiency in this game, and he was one of several Cavs players visibly hampered by injury in the contest.

The epic fashion in which the Cavs’ historic season came to a crashing halt has caused some to wonder if major changes could be on the horizon this summer in Cleveland, but recently, CluthPoints’ Brett Siegel reported that Cavs fans have no reason to worry about Mitchell potentially looking for greener pastures.

“In the aftermath of losing to the Pacers in the 2025 Eastern Conference Semifinals, Mitchell remains fully invested in the Cavaliers’ future, league sources told ClutchPoints. He loves the city of Cleveland and has consistently been on the same page as Altman, Gansey, and Gilbert. As far as his teammates, Mitchell couldn’t ask for a better core group to play alongside,” reported Siegel. “Mitchell has one goal: to bring a championship to the city of Cleveland.”

Despite Mitchell’s commitment to staying with the Cavs, it was still a bitter end to what had been the best season for Cleveland in all of its non-LeBron James franchise history.

There were questions throughout this season about whether the Cavs’ small backcourt of Mitchell and Darius Garland would be able to do the heavy lifting in a playoff setting, and the answer to that question in the series vs the Pacers was no. It remains to be seen just how much the Cavs’ front office will take into account the injuries that Mitchell and Garland were clearly affected by in this series when considering potential roster moves this summer.

Max Strus picked a tough night to have the worst game of his professional career, going 0-9 from the field and finishing with zero points. It was also a tough showing from Jarrett Allen.

Still, with Giannis Antetokounmpo potentially moving out west and Jayson Tatum likely sidelined for the entirety of next season, the Cavs’ window for Eastern Conference contention still figures to be wide open moving forward.
