The Cleveland Cavaliers currently have the third overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. But, the Cavs aren’t stopping there. An ESPN report from Wednesday stated that Cleveland is one of four teams who could try to pull off a trade with the Detroit Pistons for the No. 1 pick later this month.
Now, sources close to Cleveland.com are saying that the Cavs are “definitely looking into” the possibility of pulling this off. As of right now, they would likely get either Jalen Green or Evan Mobley at third overall, which is by no means a bad thing. Both players have tremendous upside and would be a great addition to this Cavs roster. But, projected top pick Cade Cunningham would be the best possible option for Cleveland in their rebuild.
He’s a pure two-way talent who can score at all three levels and will surely be an immediate hit at the NBA level. The Cavs need a player like the Oklahoma State standout to really help them turn the ship around in Cleveland. But, a trade wouldn’t come without giving up assets. A future first-round pick could be lost and/or even one of their young players like Isaac Okoro, Darius Garland, and even Collin Sexton.
How much are the Cavs willing to risk in order to get Cunningham? That remains to be seen.
