One of the biggest decisions the Cavs need to make this offseason involves the contract of Collin Sexton. The 23-year-old is entering free agency this summer and unless Cleveland is able to secure him to a new deal, Sexton could very well walk away and leave the team with nothing to show for.
According to Cavs team insider Evan Dammarell of Right Down Euclid, however, Cleveland’s front office is doing everything they can to keep Sexton with the team. The former eighth overall pick appears to be part of the Cavs’ plans for the future and they will now be working on a contract extension for him in the near future:
Sources also say that a top priority is to sign Collin Sexton to an extension as well to further bolster support around Garland.
Sexton saw his season come to a bitter end last term following a major knee injury. He had to go under the knife to address a torn meniscus in his left knee, which ended his campaign early in the season. Right now, we all don’t know what type of impact Sexton would have had on the Cavs during their breakout season had he been healthy. Well, it now sounds like we’re going to get a chance to see this in 2022-23.
