ESPN insider Zach Lowe says for now, the Cleveland Cavaliers aren’t interested in trading All-Star power forward Kevin Love. Lowe says the Cavs value Love’s veteran presence and ability to stretch the floor with his shooting.
Cleveland’s young core is headlined by Collin Sexton, Cedi Osman and rookies Darius Garland and Dylan Windler.
The Cavs signed Love to a four-year, $120.4 million contract extension last offseason. Love will make $28,942,830 next season, $31,258,256 in 2020-21, $31,258,256 in 2021-22 and $28,942,830 2022-23. The five-time All-Star played in 22 games this past season.
Love underwent surgery on his left foot in November after the first four games of the season. He finished the year averaging 17.0 points, 10.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 38.5 percent from the field, 36.1 percent from beyond the arc and 90.4 percent from the free-throw line.
The Cavs aren’t going to be a playoff team in 2019-20, but they should win more than 19 games. If Love plays like an All-Star, his trade value will go up and then Cleveland might be able to get a good haul for him at the February trade deadline.
The one thing we know about Kevin Love is he’s going to be a consummate professional.
The 30-year-old is loved by his teammates in Cleveland and always gives it his all on the basketball court.
