Prior to the 104-103 win over the Orlando Magic, the Cleveland Cavaliers were on a four-game losing streak and are struggling once again in January. Since LeBron James’ return in 2014, the Cavaliers have been active at the trade deadline.
According to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports, the Cavaliers have shown interest in George Hill, who originally signed a three-year, $57 million deal with the Sacramento Kings this past free agency:
In an effort to bolster their backcourt situation, the Cleveland Cavaliers are expressing interest in a trade for Sacramento Kings guard George Hill, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
After Hill was reportedly promised the Kings would compete for the playoffs when he signed, they are currently 13-31, which is last in the Western Conference. As the Kings focus on their young core in the second half of the season, it will be interesting to see if Hill is ultimately moved.
At 31 years old, Hill is averaging 10.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in 27.2 minutes. With already the oldest roster in the league, it is unclear if the Cavaliers will have the necessary pieces to complete a potential trade as all the attention is on the Brooklyn Nets’ 2018 first round draft pick.
Originally included in the Kyrie Irving trade, it remains to be seen if the Cavaliers will use their lottery draft pick to improve their roster with the trade deadline approaching. While they have been linked with DeAndre Jordan and the Los Angeles Clippers, there have been debates about if trading for the one-time All-Star truly takes them to another level as they look to dethrone the Golden State Warriors.
