Utah Jazz forward Kevin Love was back in a very familiar place on Monday when they visited the Cleveland Cavaliers at Rocket Arena.
Love remains beloved in The Land for helping the Cavaliers win the championship in 2016. He played for the squad from 2014 to 2023, endearing himself to the city with his talent, professionalism, and personality.
It was only fitting that the Cavaliers played a video tribute for Love during the first timeout versus the Jazz, with fans also giving him a standing ovation. The 37-year-old veteran showed his gratitude by applauding the crowd and pointing to his ring finger.
The Jazz beat the Cavaliers, 123-112, with Love tallying 11 points and three rebounds.
It is not the first time the five-time All-Star returned to Cleveland since he left. But he was still presented with a touching gesture, underscoring his importance to the teamâs legacy.
Fans saluted the mutual respect of Love and the Cavaliers.
âThe 2016 memories just came flooding back. That jersey will be in the rafters soon,â said @gmrfyd969.
âA hero is in the building,â added @hoopstheoryX.
âLove always gets his flowers,â posted @Th_Ann1999.
âA well-deserved tribute to a champion,â noted @LilEverhart.
âCleveland fans are loyal to the end. You give this city your all and donât badmouth us, and we will love you forever,â declared @jmepowerlifter
While Love expressed his frustrations with the Cavaliers in the past, they were born out of his desire to help the team reach greater heights.
His time in Cleveland will never be forgotten, especially his crucial stop against Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry in Game 7 of the NBA Finals and his 34-point first quarter versus the Portland Trail Blazers. But most importantly, it is his character that will remain etched in memory.
