Tyronn Lue is the first NBA coaching casualty of the season. The Cleveland Cavaliers are parting ways with Lue just six games into the season — six games the Cavs have lost. Lue issued a gracious statement about his time in Cleveland, per Marc. J Spears of The Undefeated.
“My time here in Cleveland was truly special. I am very grateful for the dedication, sacrifice, and support of all the players on our team, the tremendous coaches I worked with and of course, our incredible fans. Lastly, deep thanks to Dan Gilbert, David Griffin and Koby Altman for the opportunity over the last three years and I only wish the organization success moving forward.”
This is a tough break for Lue. He becomes one of the more attractive coaching hires on the market, but after getting fired at such a strange time, he may have to wait until next season for a shot at a head coaching job.
Lue’s resume contains three NBA Finals appearances and one championship. He’s certainly one of the most accomplished coaches on the market. Even if he is relatively young as a head coach, he has extensive playoff experience and has coached in big games before.
Of course, it’s always great to have LeBron James on the team. He’s the best player in the world and is a luxury for any coach to have, but he shouldn’t diminish Tyronn Lue’s accomplishments in any way.
