Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue won’t hone into any particular Golden State Warriors player in what is set to be his third consecutive NBA Finals stint and the fourth meeting between the two teams in as many years.
Asked who the head of the snake is on their opponent’s roster, Lue answered rather bluntly:
“It’s everybody,” said Lue, according to Tom Withers of The Associated Press.
The Warriors shined with different players throughout their most recent series against the Houston Rockets, with Kevin Durant carrying the offense for the first two games, Klay Thompson coming alive in Game 6, and Stephen Curry putting up a display of fireworks in a crucial comeback Game 7 win to secure a spot in The Finals.
Much like the Cavs being short a key player in Kevin Love (concussion protocol), the Warriors are missing another in Andre Iguodala (leg contusion) — a player that would take on the primary task of defending James, as he has in the previous three iterations of this June classic.
Tyronn Lue will be tasked with ways to contain eruptions from any of the Warriors All-Stars, rather than targeting one in particular.
Both teams are plenty familiar with each other’s systems, having faced one another in the regular season and the playoffs over 25 times in the last four seasons, with Lue witnessing the majority of those encounters after taking over the helm for David Blatt in 2016.
