In the last few days, Kyrie Irving’s comments about the city of Cleveland have come under fire as he praised Boston for being a “real live sports city.”
There has been plenty of reaction to these statements from members of the Cleveland Cavaliers with head coach Tyronn Lue being among those giving his take, according to Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com.
“Oh, I thought he was talking about Cleveland,” Lue said at shootaround. “I’m happy to be here. I thought he was talking about Cleveland the whole time.”
Although Cleveland has experienced much disappointment over the years in its various professional sports teams, each has had a strong level of success. The Cleveland Indians have once again become a powerhouse team in the MLB. The Cavaliers have been the top team in the Eastern Conference over the last few years coming off three consecutive NBA Finals appearances while earning their first-ever NBA title.
The Cleveland Browns have struggled over the last couple of decades to experience any consistent level of success, but there is a rich history of that goes further back. They have four AAFC championships and four NFL championships that spanned between the 1940s to 1960s.
There may be a different vibe from the city in terms of sports because of the letdowns in the playoffs for their teams, but there are passionate fans that reside in Cleveland.
